Medical College: Government has agreement with Pfizer to apply this vaccine in El Salvador News from El Salvador

Milton Brizuela, the president of the union, stated that the Government already has an agreement with this pharmaceutical company, whose vaccine is applied in European countries.

The President of the Medical College of El Salvador (Colmedes), Milton Brizuela, stated yesterday that they are aware that the Government has taken measures to bring the COVID-19 vaccine produced by the Pfizer Laboratory into the country.

“We are aware that it was discussed in CAPI, which is the Immunization Advisory Council, and finally they also suggested that it was the best alternative, as it is one of the few (vaccines) allowed at the moment.” , he said.

Brizuela said they also have reports that the government has made arrangements with Pfizer to purchase the storage locations, which require freezing temperatures.

This agreement with Pfizer has not yet been formalized by the Executive. President Nayib Bukele announced on November 25 that there is an agreement for El Salvador to receive 2 million doses of the vaccine developed by the British-Swedish pharmacy AstraZeneca, once it goes through studies that will be carried out to confirm that it works well.

The same Minister of Health, Francisco Alabí, confirmed in November that vaccination with AstraZeneca will begin in the first quarter of 2021 and also did not provide information about Pfizer.

Leader Colmedes said he considered it positive that they were starting to get vaccinated, although he said that because of government secrecy, they did not know in depth what the process would be like or who would vaccinate first.

“We hope it has nothing to do with political influences. We hope that the first-line health professional is vaccinated first and then goes to people with risk factors, “he said.

According to the infectologist Iván Solano Leiva, the issue of the Pfizer vaccine was addressed in a meeting that this advisory body of the Ministry of Health held last Wednesday.

Pfizer is the vaccine applied in European countries, despite the fact that there was a delay in its delivery to eight countries on the old continent last Monday; in the US he vaccinates with Moderna.

MOP is already building modules in which vaccines will be applied

A total of 156 modules will be installed in different parts of the country for use as vaccine application points, President Bukele reported Monday night via his Twitter.

The President does not specify whether only that vaccine or others from the health vaccination scheme will be applied in those places.

According to the data that the Ministry of Public Works (MOP) posted on its social networks, the respective institution is in charge of erecting the prefabricated structures.

According to MOP reports, the sites where such modules will exist include: Chalatenango Health Unit; Concepción Quezaltepeque, always in Chalatenango; San Juan de Dios National Hospital in Santa Ana and Rosales National Hospital in the capital.

In the Military Hospital of San Salvador, they will also adapt an area that will be used as a vaccination center. While in the Congolese Health Unit, in Santa Ana they are preparing an area for the storage of medicines and vaccines.

Bukele stressed that the booths will be accessible and will have the necessary conditions for the administration of the vaccine to the population, free of charge and voluntarily.

“After the vaccination process, which will take several months, these 156 modules will be used as digital libraries in our public schools,” said the president.
