MDHHS extends the order of the epidemic to masks and assemblies

LANSING, Mich. – Michiganders will be required to wear masks and avoid assembly until most of May, after the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services expanded its key epidemic order.

The department announced on Friday that the Gathering and Mask order implemented last year will run until at least May 24.

MDHHS Director Elizabeth Hertel cited the state’s high positivity rate and the large number of COVID cases in the hospital.

The extension comes with a new requirement: children between the ages of 2 and 4 must make good faith efforts to wear a mask when in a child care unit or camp. This mandate enters into force on April 26.
