McDonald’s addresses the Pokemon Scalpers in the new statement

Earlier this week, McDonald’s began a new promotion to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Pokemon franchise. For a limited time, fans can receive TCG packages at Happy Meals or as a separate purchase from participating locations. Unfortunately, Pokemon cards are quite popular at the moment, and resellers have taken over the promotional cards. There have even been book case auctions on eBay! Following ComicBook.com’s previous article on the situation, McDonald’s contacted us with a statement about its plans to ensure that fans can enjoy the current promotion. This statement can be found below.

“We like to see the passion of the fans for our Happy Meal promotion for a limited time, celebrating 25 years of Pokémon. With such a significant demand for our Pokémon TCG promotional books, and some fans even go to great lengths to get them, we are working quickly to address the shortcomings and also encourage restaurants to set a reasonable limit for Happy Meals sold per customer. We want to offer the complete Happy Meal experience to as many families as possible and make sure everyone is able to have fun! ”

According to McDonald’s, individual restaurants are allowed to decide whether or not to sell a-la-carte toys, but the company’s policy is not to sell Happy Meal toy cases. The company also does not accept the resale of toys through so-called “unauthorized channels”. Instead, he believes that books should be offered exclusively through promotion.

Some stores seem to have already set limits on the number of toys that can be offered to each customer, with many customers limiting it to four or five. As the company encourages stores to place these types of restrictions, it will be interesting to see whether or not it prevents some resellers from catching them before fans can.

For those unfamiliar with the promotion, McDonald’s Happy Meals currently offers 25 Pokemon books that celebrate the franchise’s history. The cards are offered in blind packs of four, although each card also has a hologram variant. TCG packages come with additional items such as book boxes, stickers and more.
