Matthew McConaughey is considering running for governor of Texas

Matthew McConaughey said Wednesday he plans to run for governor of Texas.

The “Dallas Buyers Club” star acknowledged the possibility of running for office while being interviewed on the podcast “The Balanced Voice”.

McConaughey, 51, was talking about his current roles as a parent and professor at the University of Texas when he wondered out loud what his next move in life would be.

“And I look now, what is my leadership role?” McConaughey asks. “Because I think I have a few things to teach and share.

“What is my role, what is my category in my next chapter of life that I go to now?” he continues.

Host Rania Mankarious jumped at the chance to wonder if a governor’s race would qualify as his next step.

“It’s a real consideration,” said the Oscar winner.

In November last year, McConaughey did not rule out a political candidacy when asked about the possibility in a radio interview.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, a Republican, is being re-elected in 2022.
