Marjorie Taylor Greene criticized her ‘cruel’ response to Democrat’s trans flag

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) Convicted a two-pronged conviction of hanging a poster that read “There are TWO genders” in response to a trans pride flag installed outside Rep. Marie Newman (D-Ill.).

Newman, who has a transgender daughter, posted a video on Twitter Wednesday afternoon after she placed the flag outside her office after Greene cited the Equality Act, which seeks to protect LGBTQ individuals from discrimination, “An attack on God’s creation” and “disgusting, immoral and wicked.”

In response, Newman tweeted the video thinking, “I thought we were going to put up our Transgender flag so she can look at it every time she opens her door.”

Shortly after Newman posted the video online, Greene tweeted a video of Newman on the House floor promoting the Equality Act on the House floor, with Greene calling Newman’s daughter “your biological son.”

Greene, who lost her committee membership after promoting messages of violence against Democratic leaders and various conspiracy theories, later Wednesday posted a video of her putting up a new sign outside her own office that read: “There are TWO genders: MALE & FEMALE. “Trust in science!”

“I thought we would hang ours so she can look at it every time she opens her door,” Greene tweeted.

Fellow lawmakers were quick to criticize Greene for her response, along with Newman’s fellow Illinois Democratic Rep. “This hatred is exactly why the #EqualityAct is needed and from which we need to protect @ RepMarieNewman’s daughter and all of our LGBTQ + loved ones,” Casten tweeted

“This is sad and I’m sorry this happened,” Kinzinger said of Greene’s sign. “Rep. Newman’s daughter is transgender, and this video and tweet represent the hate-and-fame politics of self-promotion at all costs. This shit has to end to get #RestoreOurGOP.”

However, Newman says she never wanted the trans pride flag to erupt in a “tit-for-tat,” with Greene, CNNs tell Alisyn Camerota Thursday morning she just planned “make a statement so that they [Greene] sees LGBTQ + people. ”

“I’m extremely proud of my daughter and that’s all everyone asks for, is treated like someone else, and that’s what I want Representative Greene to see,” said Newman.

“I wasn’t concerned about her reaction,” she added to Greene’s sign. “What I wanted her to do was see the LGBTQ community and understand that equality is long overdue, so it doesn’t matter to me.”

“She can go on with this no matter what she does, and I have no interest in it,” Newman continued. “What I’m interested in now is turn the corner and go back to work.”
