Georgian lawmaker Marjorie Taylor Greene says she will debate the Green New Deal with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez – but only after reading “all 14 pages” of it.

Greene tweeted that she was “glad” to bump into AOC and that they would “schedule time” for the debate after reading the 14-page Green New Deal document.

AOC has not confirmed this debate, but the two were chatting on the House floor on Wednesday – nor has she commented publicly on Greene.

Insider has reached out to both Green and Ocasio-Cortez for comment.

Greene has pushed for a pay-per-view TV debate with the New York congressman in which she plans to battle it out with Ocasio-Cortez over the climate change proposal.

In a series of tweets On April 14, Greene said the debate would be “informative to the American people” and suggested that she and Ocasio-Cortez “negotiate a major news network to host the debate,” with each of them choosing one moderator.

“Since you sponsored the Green New Deal and earned a degree in economics, you are bound to be more than qualified,” Greene wrote.

She added that she too has her own qualifications and tweeted, “I just got a degree in business administration and had a construction company for 20 years.”

As for where the monetary income from the pay-per-view debate would go, so would Greene suggested that they could distribute the collected money.

Democratic lawmakers – including Ocasio-Cortez and Senator Ed Markey – reintroduced the Green New Deal resolution on Tuesday.

First introduced in February 2019, the non-binding resolution provides a ten-year plan to eliminate US greenhouse gas emissions, reduce pollution and transition the US economy to a fossil-free economy .

Greene is a vocal critic of AOC and the Green New Deal. In February, she argued at a town hall in Murray County, Georgia, “Maybe we are living on a ball that revolves around the sun, that flies through the universe, and maybe our climate is just changing.”

There is a 97% consensus among the scientific community that humans are the cause of climate change.

Greene also previously stated that the California wildfires were not caused by climate change but by space lasers funded by Jewish investment firms, a claim rejected for being inaccurate and anti-Semitic.
