Born in Philadelphia, Ramsey’s entertainment career began on stage. He starred together in Broadway shows, including productions of “Eubie!” and “Grind”, and toured the country in the musical “Hello Dolly”.
Ramsey began his television career as a guest star on the hit series “The Jeffersons” and was a regular on “Cos,” the comedy series sketched by Bill Cosby.
Her best-known role was in the 1984 film Police Academy as Officer Hooks, whose gentle demeanor was punctuated by memorable outbursts. Ramsey starred in five other “Police Academy” films in the 1980s.
He began starring in the “Addams Family” cartoon series in the early 1990s, which aired for two seasons.
Ramsey was deeply dedicated to AIDS awareness and lent her voice to charity, singing in “Divas Simply Singing,” an annual fundraising event.
Later in his television and film career, he appeared on the adult swimming shows “Robot Chicken” and “Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!”
In 2015, she reunited with “Academy Politics” stars Steve Guttenberg and Michael Winslow in the Syfy camp film “Lavalantula” and its sequel “2 Lava 2 Lantula!” next year. Her final acting role was in the 2018 indie film “When I Sing.”
She is survived by her three brothers.
