Mario games shine and Yakuza re-enters the Top 40 | Graphics in the UK box

It’s been another strong week for Nintendo in the UK this week, and especially for its iconic mascot.

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury is the best-selling box game in the UK for the fourth week in a row, holding No. 1 despite an 18% drop in sales. Meanwhile, other Mario titles in the charts enjoyed an increase in sales.

Mario Kart 8: Deluxe is up to number 4 from number 6 after a 7% increase in sales. Meanwhile, Super Mario 3D All-Stars re-enters the Top Ten at number 6 after a 36% increase in sales. The Mario collection was created to mark the 35th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. and is discontinued at the end of the month (including the digital version). Nintendo spent the week reminding fans that the games will be put out for sale, which could explain some of the momentum.

A little lower, Super Mario Odyssey went from number 17 to number 13, after a 5% increase in sales.

It’s been a strong week for Nintendo in general. Six of the Top Ten in the box were Nintendo Switch games and all increased in weekly sales. The biggest lift was Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which rose from No. 7 to No. 3 after a 40% increase in sales. Animal Crossing saw an update this week with items and clothing from the Mario series.

There have been no new releases in the charts, although Yakuza: Like A Dragon returns to the Top 40 at number 35 after the release of the PS5 version.

Elsewhere, Spider-Man: Miles Morales holds 2nd place after a slight 19% drop in sales, suggesting that PS5 shares continue to come strong in the UK. However, the PS4 hit The Last of Us Part 2 drops from No. 3 to No. 11. The game returned to the charts last week after the price reduction.

Last week’s new releases fell sharply week by week. The new Bravely Default 2 RPG Switch drops from No. 11 to No. 33 after a 74% drop in sales. Meanwhile, the Persona 5 Strikers, who debuted at number 5 last week, have completely disappeared from the boxing charts.

This data only counts the physical sales of the games.
