Marilyn Manson denies allegations of abuse by Evan Rachel Wood

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Rocker Marilyn Manson was released by record label Monday after actor Evan Rachel Wood accused her ex-boyfriend of sexual and other physical abuse, claiming she was “manipulated into obedience” during their relationship .

Manson called the allegations “horrible distortions of reality.”

Wood, who plays the role of “Westworld” on HBO, had spoken frequently in recent years about the abuse in a relationship, but did not name the person until he posted on Instagram on Monday.

“My aggressor’s name is Brian Warner, also known worldwide as Marilyn Manson,” said Wood. “He started taking care of me when I was a teenager and abused me horribly for years.”

Manson’s label, Loma Vista Recordings, said in a statement that after the “disturbing allegations”, it would “stop promoting its current album” and “also decided not to collaborate with Marilyn Manson on any future project ”.

Wood and Manson’s relationship became public in 2007, when he was 38, and she was 19, and they were briefly engaged in 2010 before breaking up.

Wood, now 33, said in his post that Manson left her “brainwashed and manipulated into obedience.”

“I ended up living in fear of reprisals, slander or blackmail. I am here to expose this dangerous man and to shout the many industries that have allowed him, before he destroys more lives “, added the post.

She concluded: “I live with the many victims who will not be silent.”

Manson responded with his own post on Instagram on Monday night.

“Obviously, my art and life have long been magnets for controversy, but these recent statements about me are horrible distortions of reality,” his post said. “My intimate relationships have always been fully consensual with partners with the same idea. No matter how – and why – others now choose to distort the past, this is the truth. ”

It was not immediately clear whether Wood went to the authorities with any charges, and a representative did not respond immediately when asked by e-mail if he did.

In 2018, Los Angeles County prosecutors refused to file charges against Manson on charges of assault, battery and sexual assault dating back to 2011, saying they were limited by prescriptions and lack of corroboration. The plaintiff in this case was identified only as a social acquaintance of Manson.

He denied the allegations through his lawyer at the time.

In 2017, Wood was one of thousands of women who identified themselves as victims of harassment or sexual assault in the midst of the #MeToo movement.

“Being raped once made it easier to be raped again. I closed instinctively. My body remembered, so it protected me. I’m gone. #metoo “, Wood then wrote as part of a series of tweets about her experience.

In 2018, she testified about her abuses before a subcommittee of the judiciary of the Chamber, while seeking the adoption of a Declaration of the Rights of Survivors of Sexual Assault in All 50 States.

“My experience with domestic violence was as follows: toxic mental, physical and sexual abuse that started slowly but increased over time,” she told the commission.

Wood began acting as a child, earning fame and a Golden Globe nomination for the role of a troubled teenager in 2003 in “Thirteen.”

For three seasons, she played Dolores Abernathy, a sensible android, on HBO’s “Westworld” and was nominated for a Golden Globe and an Emmy Award for her role.

Manson, 52, became a well-known name in the mid-1990s with a number of successful rock albums and used a stage character designed to shock and stir up controversy.

The Associated Press does not normally name people who say they have been sexually assaulted, but names Wood because of his decision to speak in public.
