Margarita Cedeño expects the investigation against former PLD officials to be transparent

Former Vice President Margarita Cedeño said today that she trusts the authorities conducting investigations into the sworn statements of former officials of the past administration of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD).

He considered that we must wait for the end of the process, which he hopes will be transparent and fair.

“Now we must hope that justice really works and that a fair and transparent conclusion is reached, and I also trust the authorities, my professor, with an unparalleled ability, as Dr. Miriam Germán has,” he said. el Cedeño after being asked by journalists about this issue when he went to vote this afternoon at the National House of PLD, where the new members of the Central Committee of the respective political organization are elected.

The Special Prosecutor’s Office against Administrative Corruption (PEPCA) is investigating several past government officials, whom it accuses of illicit enrichment, including former finance minister Donald Guerrero, reserve bank examiner Simón Lizardo, former director of the presidency’s social plan, Iris Guaba and others.

The former vice-president also referred to rising commodity prices and agreed with President Luis Abinader yesterday, who emphasized that the situation was due to external factors caused by the pandemic.

He considered the situation to be very worrying and that, had it not been for the social programs implemented by the last administration, the prospects would have been more daunting.

“And certainly, if it were not for the social programs implemented by the PLD government today, the situation would really be much more precarious and worrying,” he said.

He understands that the current government has a great challenge. “It must be acknowledged, it is the result of external conditions due to this pandemic that has affected us all,” he agreed.

However, he said that it must be acknowledged that thanks to the measures and social protection system implemented by the PLD today, the country can enjoy a certain social stability “and a certain peace of government”.

PLD Congress

Cedeño was full of hope in the process that this political organization is developing this Sunday, where it elects the new members of its Central Committee, which it considered more open, transparent and participatory.

He stressed that on this occasion, a group of young people are being given the opportunity to integrate this internal body in order to strengthen and renew it.
