Many Michigan businesses are waiting to reopen despite the state’s green light

DETROIT – Last Friday, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer along with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services announced both are ready to reopen many companies on Monday.

But on closer inspection, many of the companies are not ready.

  • MDHHS using 2 ‘core, science-based ideas’ to decide what to reopen remains closed in Michigan
  • Michigan will ‘seriously consider’ lifting COVID restrictions early, depending on progress

If you want to go to a casino on Monday night, you can’t. You may be able to bowl some strings in a few places, but not much, and for a movie in most places you will have to wait a while.

It’s best to call ahead or check online before heading out. Metro Detroit’s 10 MJR movie theaters have survived takeout popcorn sales.

Whitmer now allows movies to go to a point limited to about 30 people in an auditorium.

Joel Kincaid, MJR’s vice president of operations, welcomes that on Wednesday.

“The fact that not much is happening really helps this industry. We’re one of the few breakouts from 2020. We’ve had a ton of excitement. We are opening without concessions as you can see, it will be closed, ”said Kincaid.

Greektown Casino will also reopen Wednesday night.

Greektown Casino’s Marvin Beatty said getting back 800 employees has been a daunting task.

“So the important thing is to get all or our team members back and test them, so we’re working with the municipal health service,” he said.

No food or alcohol is served in the casino or in bowling centers, but there is more. Only immediate family can be on court together and kill profitable league game.

The Motor City and MGM casinos also have until Wednesday night to reopen.

Now we are told there are a number of bowling centers open in Metro Detroit, but calling again is the best answer.

The number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in Michigan has risen to 463,403 since Monday, including 11,532 dead, state officials report.

Monday’s update includes 4,551 new cases and 71 additional deaths in the past two days.
