As an “illegal and painful” act, the mayor of Santo Domingo Este (SDE), Manuel Jiménez, described the approval of the 22,000 pesos travel expenses made this Thursday by the council of councilors of the municipality.
“It’s painful, it even clashes with the Constitution,” Jiménez said during a press conference at the SDE Municipal Palace.
The mayor assured that the increase, which will raise the councilors’ income to 242,000 pesos, is not on the agenda and that the project was unexpectedly known at the request of the spokesman for the Modern Revolutionary Party. He added that it was yesterday when he found out.
Illegality
According to Jiménez, the document containing the alleged approval of the viaticum is illegal because it does not have the signature of the operator or his.
In this regard, he stated that he is not aware of the increase and therefore will not sign it.
“I’m an obstacle”
The mayor said that “the council of councilors does not work” and is an obstacle in solving the priorities that affect the municipality.
Jiménez blamed councilors for hindering progress in the fight against the accumulation of solid waste that affects that delimitation of the province of Santo Domingo.
