Manuel Jiménez asks to declare SDE in case of emergency to solve the garbage problem

The Mayor of Santo Domingo Este, Manuel Jiménez, asked the City Council to declare the municipality a state of emergency in order to take the necessary measures to deal with the garbage problem in that community.

Participating with President Luis Abinader of the Council of Ministers, dedicated for the first time to the priorities of a municipality, Jiménez explained to the president the specifications designed in conjunction with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to hire a garbage collection company in the city’s most populous area, constituency 3.

“We have the plan and the resources. We only need the leaders of our party and the opposition to study the document, debate it and declare a state of emergency for the garbage problem “, said the mayor.

According to the plan presented by the mayor, the municipal authorities intend to install a mixed model of solid waste collection, assuming responsibility for collection in some areas and hiring only high-performance and efficient companies in other areas.

Projects

Manuel Jiménez presented to the President a list of projects and imperative works of the city, which require the collaboration of the Government.

These projects are: the construction of a modern solid waste transfer station with the capacity to respond to the garbage of the most populous municipality in the country; completion of the Palace of Justice, where about 22% of the national population should be served.

Also the completion of two wastewater treatment plants located in El Tamarindo and Los Prados de San Luis; building a public university to serve approximately 50,000 young people; the construction of a general hospital for a municipality with over 1,200,000 inhabitants and the creation of the Entrepreneurship Center and the National Ecological Museum in the facilities of the Parque del Este bus station.

He also stressed the need for the government to give priority to the construction of a municipal school of fine arts in Santo Domingo Este.; construction of the baseball stadium; construction of the new Los Mina market; and government intervention to resolve the traffic and mobility situation together with the city council.

For construction projects, the City Hall has specific lands and collaboration capacities. The only thing missing, according to Jiménez’s calculations, is the immediate articulation with the executive branch.
