Manual counting is undemocratic and an obstacle, says Ricardo Álvarez

Tegucigalpa, Honduras

Presidential nominee, Ricardo Alvarez, assured that the elimination of the preliminary system of transmission of electoral results (Trep) from the next first elections is an undemocratic measure and a retrograde in the political history of Honduras.

President of the National Electoral Council (CNE), Rixi Moncada, announced that Trep will not be applied in the next elections on March 14, because the tender for the companies that were going to start it was declared unsuccessful.

“However, the elimination of this system, I think, is an undemocratic decision and a retrograde in the country’s political life, it also sends a signal of reduced transparency with what can happen in the way of parties,” he warned.

The coordinator of the nationalist movement’s “Juntos Podemos” campaign, led by the president of the National Congress, Mauricio Oliva, said that I would like 100% of the electoral results to be transmitted by Trep”.

He also denounced that “there are marked interests in the inclination of the candidacies of mayors, deputies and presidents, which could generate that the will of the people, what we want to be reflected in the minutes, is not what is given. ”

“It’s sad because they made a totally wrong, undemocratic and anti-modern decision, which shows that we are not taking the right measures a few days before the election,” he said.

Alvarez said that “I do not understand the logic behind this situation, because from the beginning they started to discredit some internationally renowned companies and since then they have started to generate suspicions until they have take out the step”.

“I think that within the National Party we will have to look for some mechanisms in order to be able to guarantee ourselves Trep internally, one of them would be to take a photo of each report, at least in our movement that will be done and instructions will be issued in this regard, “he said.
