Mangrove tree extract could help fight baldness, the study found

Researchers in Thailand believe that a mangrove tree extract could help fight baldness.

The extract, called Avicequinon C, has been shown to stop the body from producing hormones that can lead to hair loss.

To date, the research team at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Chulalongkorn University has tested the extract on a group of 50 men and women with androgenic alopecia, the most common form of hair loss.

Participants made visible improvements after a month and wMoreover, it seemed that the treatment not only prevented hair loss, but also stimulated hair growth.

This means that it can help people who have already lost more than their fair hair.

The next step is to test the extract on several volunteers so that it can be approved by the Food and Drug Administration of Thailand.

If it gets approval, a private company has already bought the research patent, which it can use to develop a hair loss product.

Professor Wanchai Deeknamkul, of the Faculty of Pharmacognosy and Pharmaceutical Botany, said: “We have learned that it has many benefits. production of proteins that stimulate hair growth.

“We took pictures of the volunteers’ heads in each corner and also used a microscope to look at the hair loss area to examine the nature of the hair loss and to schedule a month and repeat the same process for four consecutive months.

“We compared images with the same place and found that only after a month, participants showed positive changes, with improved hair resistance, which stick well to the scalp, while none of the participants showed any allergic reactions.”

He added that its natural derivation could make it a more desirable option than synthetic alternatives.

He explained: “We examined more than 50 plant extracts and more than 20 pure substances and found that Avicennia Marin extract contains the active ingredient Avicequinone C, which inhibits the enzyme that produces hair loss hormones.

“Avicennia Marin extract also helps build proteins that can promote hair growth. Thus helping to completely solve the problem of hair loss.

“Many cosmetic products that claim to treat hair loss consist mostly of chemically synthesized drugs. Which can cause unwanted side effects, especially allergic reactions and inflammation of the skin and affects the body’s system.

“In addition, almost all have not been scientifically proven or researched to determine the mechanism of action of the substances used.

“In the past, we imported synthetic drugs from foreign countries, both topical and oral drugs, but they showed results in only 30 percent and 48 percent, respectively. Moreover, the side effects were also Much bigger.

“Therefore, extracts from Avicennia Marin plants found in Thai mangrove forests will reduce the import of these synthetic drugs. It can also be an export product that creates market value for the country as well.”
