On The Mandalorian, the characters say “This is the way”. If the great cameo of the second season however, it was not initially.
So far Star Wars fans you know this season two of The Mandalorian ended with Grogu (aka Baby Yoda) leaving Din Djarin with a Jedi with whom he connected by Force. A Jedi by name Luke Skywalker. It was a thrilling moment for many fans, one that raised a lot of questions for Star Wars going forward.
Usually, such a revelation is something that a show will build after years of planning. In this case, however, this is not what happened. The idea came during the trial, not before.
“No,” Favreau said when asked by the WGA if bringing Luke back was always the plan. “The story unfolded as I wrote it. The Mandalorian inherits a lot from existence Star Wars stories and, when I write, that context is always a consideration. It has become clear that, within the established continuity, certain things could transpire ”.
That is, if Grogu were to be trained by a Jedi, the most powerful Jedi in the galaxy at the time was probably Luke Skywalker. And yet, bringing back his star Star Wars it was not an easy decision, especially since its introduction has a potential impact on many other stories.
G / O Media may receive a commission
“We have an extraordinary freedom offered to us because of the time gap between the films,” Favreau continued. “Dave Filoni and I are in constant discussion about how each story choice is influenced by and would impact the existence of Star Wars material.”
We have discussed this in detail before (read it here), but Favreau is right. While this is true, comics, books, and games touch on Luke’s story during this time, and of course the movies tell the full story, there are still decades between The return of the Jedi and The force wakes up. Most of these stories take place closer to The force wakes up (after Ben Solo was born, for example) while The Mandalorian run closer to The return of the Jedi. So much can happen between and, it seems, The Mandalorian will continue to explore more of these.
This is really the only argument that Favreau discussed in the interview, but he makes a deep dive into his writing process, launching the show, the enthusiasm of writing. Star Wars, and other; You can is heading towards WGA website to read it. The Mandalorian season three is expected to debut sometime in 2022.
