Man was sentenced to life in prison for drowning his autistic children in order to obtain insurance

A resident of California was sentenced to 212 years in prison on Thursday for murdering his two autistic children, who drowned after deliberately throwing the family car into the sea, in the port of Los Angeles, to collect the insurance money.

Ali Elmezayen, 45, waited until April 9, 2015, the date when the deferral period of the last of many insurance policies his family took out to commit the crime, the Los Angeles prosecutor’s office said it is a statement.

In the back of her car were her 8- and 13-year-old sons, both with severe autism, who were wearing their seat belts when they fell into the water and drowned.

Rehab Diab, Ali Elmezayen’s ex-wife, who sat in the front of the car, could not swim and could have drowned if a fisherman had not thrown a float at her.

Ali Elmezayen easily got out of the car through the window he had left open and swam to the dock.

As a result of what happened, he collected more than $ 260,000 in compensation from insurance taken out in the event of the death of his children and invested the amount in the purchase of real estate in his home country, Egypt, and in a boat.

Judge John F. Walter sentenced Ali Elmezayen to the maximum penalty prescribed by law, emphasizing in his sentence the “devilish schemes” and “the cruel and ruthless nature of his crimes.”

“He’s the biggest con and liar … His only regret is being caught,” said the judge, who ordered the “greedy murderer” to return the money to the insurance companies.

The prosecutor’s office is of the opinion that the man had long planned to kill his children and his wife and that he abused all three of them physically and emotionally.
