NEW YORK (AP) – One of the few copies of the comic book that introduced Superman to the world was sold at a record-breaking price.

Action Comics # 1 has grossed $ 3.25 million in a private sale, ComicConnect.com, an online auction and consignment company, announced on Tuesday.

It slightly surpassed the previous record for comics, set at the auction of another copy in 2014, by just over $ 3.2 million.

The comic, published in 1938, “is truly the beginning of the superhero genre,” said Vincent Zurzolo, COO of ComicConnect.com, which brokered the sale.

He told readers about the origins of Superman, how he came to Earth from another planet and passed Clark Kent.

The seller of this special issue bought the comic in 2018 for just over 2 million dollars.

Zurzolo said that although there were hundreds of thousands of copies originally published, it is estimated that today there are only about 100 and in different conditions. He said that this specimen is among the best preserved.

“There is no comic book that you can appreciate more in terms of comics than Action Comics # 1,” he said.
