Man detained in Miramar Dunkin ‘after being chased by Miami-Dade and Broward

MIRAMAR, Fla. – A man was detained in a Dunkin ‘store in Miramar after a police chase that swept the streets of Miami-Dade and Broward counties, authorities say.

Sky 10 was over the chase and then Local 10 cameras captured the large police presence in the Dunkin ‘at 2600 South University Drive in Miramar.

The chase, which police say was a stolen black Infinity, originated about seven miles away in northeast Miami-Dade County and made its way to Broward. At times, the Infinity found itself in the opposite lanes in Miami Gardens, narrowly missing unsuspecting drivers in other cars on the road.

Miami-Dade police say that detectives have spotted a vehicle that matches the description of a vehicle used in burglaries in the NE 2nd Avenue and 158th Street area. The driver fled the police, authorities say.

The four-door Infiniti was then spotted by Local 10 News cameras circling a Miramar comic book store before parking in one spot and the driver casually getting out. He then walked into a Dunkin ‘restaurant.

A Dunkin ’employee told Local 10 News that the person agents were looking for appeared to be in that store. We passed that information to the police and within minutes, armed Miramar agents burst into the company.

“Miramar police officers have determined that the person involved in the altercation [in Dunkin’] was the same subject that fled from the Miami-Dade Police Department detectives, ”Det. Khristopher Welch of the Miami-Dade Police Department said in an email.

He said officers from Miramar police were holding the man.

His identity has not yet been released and authorities have not announced any charges.

According to a Dunkin ’employee, the man bought a sandwich with a bill for $ 100 and spent nearly two hours in the donut shop.

The employee said the man was initially dressed in black and wearing a hat, but when he used another employee’s cell phone and finally someone came to bring him new clothes.

The employee said the man changed his clothes before attempting to leave the company, but he was arrested by police.

“It’s a bit scary because we don’t usually have that much excitement here,” said Florrie Lopez, who works nearby. “Looks like they were in a hurry to park because [the car] stands on a curb and is tilted sideways. “

The car has been searched and has since been towed. No injuries were reported as a result of the chase.

Miami-Dade County police are continuing the investigation.
