Luciana Martínez did the phase that no other Salvadoran could do in that contest. Her performance was impeccable, however, mysteriously, she was not included in the top ten.
With tears in her eyes and pointing her finger at the sky, in gratitude to God, Luciana Martínez reacted by being named one of the 20 semifinalists of Miss Grand International, the beauty pageant held in Thailand.
The 21-year-old, originally from Santa Ana, was swollen with emotion when she heard the presenter mention the name El Salvador, so that she could take a few steps forward to occupy one of the spaces of the 20 classified candidates.

After that emotional moment, Luciana had the opportunity to go in a bathing suit. In this presentation, the former queen of the Patron Saint’s Day festivities in her hometown, announced to the public why the jury chose her. With an impeccable catwalk, in which her rhythm was linked to her hips and the perfect management of the stage, the Salvadoran made the audience cheer her up. In this stage of the competition he obtained a score of 8.92. Comparing that score with that of the other qualifiers, everything seemed to indicate that the Salvadorans will move on to the next phase: the ten finalists. However, the presenter announced that in those ten candidates will be the participant who was chosen by popular vote of the public. Surprisingly, the representative from Malaysia was called, a candidate who was not named in the top 20 and who also did not parade in a bathing suit with the others.
“It’s not fair. It’s not worth putting someone among the ten finalists just because they had a lot of likes on social media. This position belonged to Luciana,” said Ronald Cerón, a “missologist.”
