Make walking more bearable with Dolly Parton’s Apple Fitness series

I hate walking much less than running, but little is more interesting than spending an hour outside in the boring bla of the suburbs. Give me hills, trails, water – anything but asphalt and passing six different Starbucks on three blocks. And while Apple can’t make lush trees and landscapes grow out of nowhere, Time to Walk’s new audio stories at least reduce the monotony.

I’ll get the bad news first: these audio narratives, meant to accompany your walk, as could your favorite band or podcast, are exclusive to the Apple Fitness + service. So you won’t get to hear Dolly Parton soothe your tired tired exercise with glittering stories, unless you pay $ 10 / month (or $ 80 / year). Or, well, if you don’t subscribe to her award-winning podcast, which I fully support.

Is not just the queen of the country who makes an appearance in the new Apple series “Time to Walk”. You’ll also find stories from Golden State Warriors striker Draymond Green, musician Shawn Mendes and actress Uzo Aduba. Nothing against these three, but I’m not sure anything can capture the squeaky, occasional, naughty conversational style of Dolly’s always enthusiastic.

To check out any of these audio narratives, look at the Apple Watch – a requirement – and drag up Fitness application on iPhone or iPad. Scroll down to the new Walking Time section:

Tap a person and you’ll see the option to add the Time to Walk episode to your Apple Watch:

Each of these episodes is a mix of music and chat – some about 50-50 split, others heavier to chat than music (which tends to be just three songs). Once you’ve finished transferring to your watch, you won’t be able to launch it via iPhone or iPad. Instead, you’ll access the workout app on your Apple Watch, where you’ll see the Time to Walk episodes listed among your regular fitness routines:

Strangely, the audio narration didn’t start as soon as my walking training started; I had to swipe left, which showed the usual musical commands. This could also be a weirdness of my AirPods Pro connection, which has been extremely difficult lately; so if you don’t hear anything at first, you know you might have to launch the Walking Time episode yourself.

Besides, sit back and enjoy the mini-monologue. Apple will release a new episode of Time to Walk every week, from now until the end of April. This will give you plenty of time to find the next big distraction you will need to keep up with healthy habits.
