Madeleine McCann’s first suspect, Christian Brueckner, 43, will be questioned by police, German prosecutors say
- In June, German police named pedophile Christian Brueckner as the prime suspect
- Brueckner lived near Praia da Luz, where Maddie disappeared in 2007
- Reports say he could never be questioned because of insufficient evidence
- But the head of the investigation, Christian Wolters, insisted that “he will be interrogated”
The first suspect in Madeleine McCann’s case will be questioned by police, German prosecutors said.
Convicted pedophile Christian Brueckner, 43, was identified by German police as a crime suspect 13 years after Madeleine disappeared while on holiday with her family in Portugal in 2007.
Christian Wolters, the 43-year-old head of the investigation into Brueckner, told The Sun that when he is questioned, it depends on further investigation, “but he will be questioned.”
The confirmation comes after it was said that Brueckner could never be questioned, as the prosecutor leading the investigation said the police did not have enough evidence to secure an arrest warrant.

Hans Christian Wolters had said the podcast They Have Taken Her: “At the moment our evidence is not so strong, we are sure he will be convicted by the court.
“Maybe we need a witness who can tell us things we don’t know.”
Earlier this year, Mr Wolters revealed that he would not need to find Madeleine’s body to prosecute Brueckner for his murder.
When asked if he had any forensic evidence to place Brueckner in the apartment where Madeline slept, Mr Wolters replied: “I have an answer, but we have decided not to disclose this information.
I can’t say “yes” or “no”, because that would bring a thousand other questions and I can’t go into details.

Prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters told a podcast: “We need a witness who can tell us things we don’t know.”
“But you have to believe me when I say we have more evidence.”
“Here in Germany, our public ministry only reveals things when they are solid.”
Brueckner is serving time in prison in Germany after being convicted of drug offenses.
He was previously convicted of child abuse and rape.
Brueckner, who lived in the resort of Praia da Luz at the same time as Madelein’s disappearance, previously said he was innocent of any crime related to the four-year-old child.
