MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. – Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel said the county is ready and not playing any games when it comes to administering vaccines.

Therefore, I am expanding the list of people who can get the vaccines in Macomb County. Starting Saturday, anyone 16 years of age or older with disabilities can call, set and schedule appointments.

“Basically, what we did was decide that these people with disabilities and other families or caregivers and even their guardians sometimes have the opportunity to go ahead and sign up for the vaccine,” Hackel said. “16 years or more. We work with our school districts to identify people who may be in these categories. ”

Hackel said this is a huge accomplishment, but first it targets the elderly.

“Our biggest concern has been to make sure we deal with seniors first, and I’m telling you that we’re over 100,000 seniors here in Macomb County,” Hackel said.

But how do you determine who is telling the truth about their conditions and who is not?

“A lot of that is based on the honor system,” Hackel said. “I don’t know too many people who will take advantage of this and try to reach it.”

Of course, Hackel expects to call more people. There will be more calls and more meetings.

“We are ready and, again, I think we will be able to open up to almost everyone sooner – for anyone who wants the vaccine – than probably the April 5 deadline,” Hackel said.
