Lucky friends randomly receive COVID-19 vaccine before dose expires – NBC4 Washington

David MacMillan is not the first responder or health worker. So, even he was surprised when a Giant Food pharmacist asked him and his friend if they wanted to receive the Moderna vaccine.

He posted his experience at Giant in Northeast DC on Friday on TikTok.

“He turned to us and said, ‘Hey, I have two doses of vaccine and I’ll have to throw them away if I don’t give them to someone. We close in 10 minutes, do you want the Moderna vaccine? He resumed in the video.

MacMillan did not hesitate.

The law student posted the video in which he received the injection to help spread the facts about the vaccine, to alleviate worries and dispel myths and rumors.

The post received hundreds of thousands of views and thousands of comments.

“It’s important that when there is so much misinformation, that people can see that this is a good thing, this is a positive thing. We should be pleased to be able to deal with the pandemic, “said MacMillan.

Giant issued a statement supporting the pharmacist’s actions, explaining that health workers scheduled to receive the doses did not show up. Giant said the DC Department of Health clarifies that if there are additional doses that will expire, they should be given to anyone who takes them.

“The Moderna vaccine is valuable and saves lives and we are happy that we did not waste it and that we gave each couple a dose,” Giant said in a statement.

MacMillan said the vaccine was not given to anyone who needed it. The situation was to use it or lose it.

She is scheduled to return for a second dose later this month.

“Obviously, the pharmacist is the hero here. He only had a short period of time and wanted to make sure that as many people as possible were vaccinated. So, props for her, absolutely, “he said.
