LSU’s spring game: an encouraging start

LSU’s spring game ended this afternoon at Tiger Stadium, with the white team eliminating the purple team, 23-14.

There were some remarkable performances, especially the receivers Kayshon Boutte and Jontre Kirklin.

Boutte took a nice shot from Myles Brennan for a 39-meter touchdown. He finished the game with 11 catches for 162 meters and a touchdown.

“We showed up today,” Boutte said postgame. “We could improve in some areas, but overall we did well as a unit.”

Jontre Kirklin also had a day, capturing 16 passes for 209 meters and two touchdowns.

Kirklins’ presentation today was significant, as the LSU offensive really needs a few guys to step into the receiver position this season.

Coach Ed Orgeron spoke after the game about LSU wide receivers “

“We need a lot of (wide receivers) to appear”

The biggest story to take from today’s spring game – LSU’s defense seems much improved. Defensive coordinator Daronte Jones made his boys run around the field competing every moment. It was a refreshing scene to watch as you think about what this defense lacked in 2020.

“Tell you what, this Daronte Jones is a talented and talented football coach.” Ed Orgeron said after the game.

Corner Dwight McGlothern eliminated wide receivers throughout today’s game. He was active on each route, jumping in, and had four breaks, three approaches with one of them for a loss.

“Dwight (McGlothern) had a great day today.” Ed Orgeron said after the game.

Defensive attack Jaquelin Roy led the team with three sacks. Roy seems to have taken over where he left off last season, but as he enters his sophomore year, it becomes clearer that things are starting to click together for him.

Derek Stingley Jr. was also his usual self in today’s game. Interception of TJ Finley with a diving catch. Stingley Jr. and wide receiver Kayshon Boutte fought and competed throughout the game.

“I think Derek Stingley is the best corner in America,” Orgeron said.

It’s just a spring game and there’s still a lot to do before the first week.

However, an encouraging start to the football season.
