This is the delightful moment, a black terrier from Staffordshire saved his puppy friend from drowning in a pool in the South African yard.

CCTV footage shows the black poser running to rescue the smaller Pomeranian toy that fell into the water after slipping on the edge of the Boksburg pool on April 8.

Sensing that her friend is in danger, seven-year-old Staffie, named Jessie, repeatedly walks around the pool and reaches the water to try to reach a 13-year-old white puck, Chucky, in while struggling to stay afloat.

Outdoor camera footage showed Chucky walking safely to the pool before being distracted by something in the garden and sliding down the pool steps.

He rummages frantically in the water to try to stay afloat before Jessie comes quickly to try to help.

The heroic female pooch reaches the water to grab Chucky, but his wet fur repeatedly slips out of his mouth and he falls back.

After several failed attempts, he uses all his strength after 34 minutes of trying to pull the exhausted dog safely before moving away together.

Chucky was not injured in the incident, but dog owners are worried about what happened when they saw the two wet poodles.

Pet owner Byron Thanarayen said he and his wife, Melissa, were watching the security room by the pool to see what the two dogs could have done.

He said: “We tried to look for clues as to where he might have wet his head. We thought he might have dipped his head in the water, but there was no mess in the house to support this suggestion.

– It was painful to watch. We’re still trying to watch the video today, just thinking about what might have happened if Jessie hadn’t been there.

After the stressful attempt, the couple heads to the garden, apparently unnoticed by what happened.

Byron added that the heroic poou was a rescue dog in trouble, adopted by the couple four years ago.

The couple is the third family adopted after her former assistants returned him to the shelter.

Mr Thanarayen said previous owners had complained that Jessie had been difficult with other animals, but “got along with our other two dogs.”

He added: “I am very proud of her, considering she is the youngest. Our dogs know how to swim, but they always swim with us and not when we are not with them.

To prevent similar incidents from happening in the future, the couple is now hiring workers to install a cover for their pool.
