On Saturday, the city’s website for COVID-19 vaccine registration showed an option for people over the age of 16 to book an appointment. Vaccinations for that group at city-administered vaccination sites will begin on Tuesday.
In a statement, Mayor Eric Garcetti’s office said all three vaccines will be available for people 18 and older, with the Pfizer vaccine being licensed for 16- and 17-year-olds.
“We continue to receive a limited amount of vaccines and, when we receive more in the coming weeks, the city will be ready to deliver even more vaccines quickly and safely,” the statement said.
The change to the city’s website comes days before California is officially extended for vaccine eligibility to residents in that age group.
State-level eligibility currently allows people over the age of 50 to receive an appointment with the vaccine. California residents aged 16 and over will officially become eligible on April 15, but other local municipalities have opted to open it earlier, including Long Beach.
