“9-1-1: Lone Star” actor Ronen Rubinstein came out as bisexual with the support of his girlfriend.
“I fully identify as bisexual,” Rubinstein told Variety. “I literally got goosebumps saying that. It feels so good to talk about it that it feels so good to finally be comfortable with it. ”
Rubinstein, 27, immediately found the support of his girlfriend Jessica Parker Kennedy, 36, who insisted on embracing his true self.
“She’s actually one of the first people to call me respectfully,” Rubinstein said of Kennedy. “She’s like, ‘Do we have to talk about something?’ And I said, “Maybe.” I didn’t know how this conversation would go. And it probably went just as well.
“It certainly encouraged me to be vocal about it, just to live my truth,” he added. “She says, ‘I love you for who you are, your full self, and people will love you for who you are and your full self.’ ””
The “No Escape” star, who was born in Israel and moved to Staten Island at the age of five, said she grew up where she did – without explicitly naming any of them – considering her decision to remains closed.
“The biggest thing for me is, where I come from, it’s like people and me who have identified as bisexual or gay or any part of the community – you’re just not welcome. It’s just as brutally honest, “he said. “It’s either that you faced some blasphemous lunatics, like the word F was thrown all the time, or it hit your ass if you were gay.
“So there was definitely a fear of hugging how I felt,” he continued. “I was definitely more aware of that in high school. I was aware of my feelings and the way I started looking at men, but I couldn’t talk to anyone about it. ”
Rubinstein called the fans of the character “9-1-1”, TK Stand, and his boyfriend from the show, Carlos Reyes – the couple is called “Tarlos” – especially supporting his revelation.
“Fans, especially Tarlos fans, is one of the biggest reasons why I finally felt safe and comfortable talking about this and finally embracing him and being happy about it. ”
