Logitech kills Harmony remotes, but says it will provide assistance

For those of you who have turned to one of Logitech’s Harmony universal remote controls to get rid of the mountain of remote controls in your home, we have some sad news: Logitech has killed the Harmony remote line. If you have a Harmony remote control or want to buy one, breathe. From now on, the company says it will continue to support new and existing Harmony customers.

In a post on Logitech support On Friday, the company said that although its Harmony remotes continue to be available through various retailers, it will stop manufacturing them sooner. However, this does not seem to affect current or even new Harmony users, at least as Logitech explains.

“We do not expect any impact on our customers through this announcement. We plan to support our Harmony community and new Harmony customers, which include access to our software and applications to configure and manage your remote controls, ”a Logitech Support representative wrote on the site. “We also intend to continue to update the platform and add devices to our Harmony database. Customer support and warranty will continue to be provided. ”

In other words: Logitech says your remote controls will still work. In addition, he says his goal is to “keep the service running as long as customers use it.”

The company also said it intends to continue to update Harmony desktop software and Harmony apps for Android and iOS. It will continue to provide a support team as well as provide resources on Harmony support page.

Logitech said its remaining Harmony stock will continue to be available as deliveries are exceeded through selected retailers to purchase customers. It will continue to maintain the Harmony database and software, but will no longer update the line and develop new products for it.

The announcement is over years of rumors and speculation that the company was looking to offer its remote controls. In 2019, Logitech CEO Bracken Darrell said the remotes were a Small part from its general activity and that it is losing its relevance in a world dominated by streaming services.

“I think over time, you’re going to have fewer and fewer people who feel they really need that universal remote,” Darrell said on Vergecast. “Now you have a different problem: you have 10 different streaming services and I want to watch Friends. However, even in 2019, Darrell said that Logitech will always take care of Harmony customers, who “really love” remote controls. Make no mistake. Even critics love it.
