Logitech Combo Touch keyboard case for the new iPad Pro models

If the combined price of the new iPad Pro models and the Apple Magic keyboard is full of tears, the Logitech Combo Touch could be a worthwhile option if you’re ready to wait a bit.

The version for the 11-inch model costs 199.99 USD, compared to 299 USD for the Magic Apple keyboard for iPad Pro …

There is an even greater saving for the 12.9-inch version, which comes to 229.99 USD, compared to 349 USD for the Apple model.

We noticed in our review of the first generation Combo Touch that it was a bit bulky, but Engadget says Logitech has managed to weaken the latest models.

Logitech has launched, quite predictably, new versions of its Combo Touch keyboard case for the newly announced iPad Pro iPad. The company introduced the accessory for iPad 2019, iPad Air 2019 and iPad Pro 2017 last year, a few days before Apple launched iPadOS 13.4 with its full support for mouse and trackpad. This software update will allow you to treat your tablet like a real laptop capable of multi-touch gestures for navigation, such as swiping and scrolling. Logitech’s Combo Touch gives you a way to take full advantage of this capability.

The third-generation 11-inch iPad Pro and 12.9-inch iPad Pro have a removable keyboard that you can pull out while sketching or reading. The company says the updated Combo Touch is thinner than its predecessor and has the largest trackpad it has ever created for a keyboard case. Because it allows you to click anywhere for navigation, you’ll have more area to work with.

The case also comes with an open side, so you can keep an Apple pencil attached to the iPad. And, it connects to the tablet via Smart Connector, so you don’t have to worry about finishing the keyboard battery.

The Logitech website says that both models are “coming soon”, adhering to the models available for older iPads, but they are not more specific than that. The company says it is more flexible than Apple’s magic keyboard, offering four modes.

Tip: anchor the keyboard upright, remove the stand, and you’re ready to enter notes, emails, and more.

View mode: Peel off the keyboard and remove the stand to watch movies and videos.

Sketch mode: Fully extend the perfect angle holder to take handwritten notes and draw with Apple Pencil® or Logitech Crayon.

Reading mode: Detach the keyboard – or reattach it with the keys rotated inward – to read books, articles, and more.

If you’re happy with a Bluetooth connection to a battery-powered keyboard, there are of course many other options at a wide range of prices.
