Vice President Mike Pence, his wife and the American surgeon General Dr. Jerome Adams all rolled up their sleeves on Friday morning and received the recently approved Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine on live television.
The vaccinations were administered after a breaking report by top officials of the US Food and Drug Administration that the agency is “working fast” to approve Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine.
The FDA advisory panel vote to endorse the Moderna vaccine was 20-0 on Thursday. One committee member abstained.
Commissioners voted to approve the use of the vaccine in people 18 and older, while Pfizer received emergency approval last week for people 16 and older.
The news comes shortly after an independent FDA advisory panel voted to approve Moderna’s shot on Thursday.
According to Johns Hopkins University, the US surpassed 17 million cases on Thursday.
