Lindor’s contract includes $ 21 million for signing sports

NEW YORK– Francisco Lindor will receive a $ 21 million bonus for signing his contract with the Mets, which will take effect next year.

The Puerto Rican shortstop was purchased from Cleveland on January 7, through a transaction. One week later, it settled for a year and $ 22.3 million.

The new agreement, announced on April 5, amounts to $ 341 million over 10 years. It provides for the payment of the signing of the bonus after the approval of the agreement by the office of the Major League Baseball Commissioner.

Lindor will earn annual salaries of $ 32 million starting in 2021.

Of this figure, 5 million will be deferred without interest each year.

The shortstop will win $ 50,000 bonuses each time it is selected for the All-Star Game or wins an MVP Gold Glove, Silver Bat or National League Championship Series award.

He will receive $ 50,000 if he is named Major League Baseball MVP, $ 25,000 if he finishes second in the ballot and $ 10,000 if he is third.

His prize would be $ 100,000 if he is the World Series MVP.

There is a provision in the contract that allows the player to block transactions to certain clubs. If he stays with the Mets for 2025, he will be able to prevent any change.

In addition, Lindor will be able to occupy a hotel suite during the tours. His contract also gives him the right to purchase four tickets to certain locations and one occupancy of a luxury suite for all home games in the regular season.

Had he not reached an agreement, Lindor would have been able to declare himself a free agent at the end of the World Series.
