Lincoln Project scraps an ad mid impeachment lawsuit targeting Republicans over the Capitol riot

In the ad, which lasts just over a minute, the anti-Trump GOP group calls for justice for officer Brian Sicknick, who died as a result of the Capitol riot.

“In the Capitol Rotunda, the remains of a brave man rest in a place of honor,” the video begins.

“He died a hero,” the ad continues. “And now Brian Sicknick deserves justice.”

Sicknick died the day after the attack on the Capitol from the injuries he sustained while trying to protect the building and its residents from the violent mob. After his death, he was awarded the rare award in honor of lying in the Capitol Rotunda.

The ad blames Trump and his allies for instigating the riot that sparked Sicknick’s death and several other injuries.

“The crowd that killed him and injured other Capitol Police agents wasn’t stupid. It was sent there,” the voiceover says as newsreel of Trump-speaking plays.

“I don’t know if I’m going to fight myself or if other people will,” said the former president in the clip.

The crowd was fed “a diet of lies” that resulted in the January 6 uprising, and now those who should be held accountable are trying to “escape their responsibility,” the ad claims.

“They didn’t deal the hundreds of blows that killed Brian Sicknick and hurt his colleagues, but they told the lie that led their followers to act. The blood is on their hands,” the ad concludes.

The new ad is one of several The Lincoln Project has released in recent months, targeting Trump, and is coming up in the Senate as his impeachment trial continues.
