With the mission of maintaining a highly controlled environment, public schools in the country today received students for the first time since the last governor, Wanda Vazquez, decreed a “blockade” almost a year ago due to the emergency caused by Covid-19.
With groups limited to students in kindergarten through 3rd grade, 4th grade and special education program, the designated secretary of Department of Education, Elba Aponte Santos, reported this afternoon that 2,643 students reported to a total of 96 campuses.
“We will continue to increase the numbers as the days go by,” the official said in a tweet, anticipating that between 25,000 and 30,000 students could be received in these first days of face-to-face classes, although split in two. groups on campus to limit the number of students.number of students present simultaneously.

The agency also reported that approximately 1,714 teachers participated in the classrooms, although it was not specified what percentage represented the total number of teachers called.
