Leonardo Faña is released on parole

Former director of the Dominican Agrarian Institute (IAD), Leonardo Faña, was released from Najayo prison after the pre-trial detention imposed on him under the charge of sexual assault by the former financial manager of the institution was changed.

This was confirmed by his lawyer, Carlos Olivares, who said that the lawyer of the National District Court of Appeal, José del Carmen Sepúlveda, sent the release order to the above-mentioned prison unit to be executed.

This comes after the Court’s judges changed the two-month pre-trial detention imposed by Investigating Judge Nancy Joaquín, which was removed from the case.

It is recalled that last Wednesday, the Court, presided over by Ignacio Camacho, imposed on Faña the payment of an economic guarantee of 500 thousand pesos, impediment to exit and regular presentation.

Olivares, who is leading the defense of the suspended official, argued in court that the budgets that gave rise to pre-trial detention have changed.

Complaint

The complaint for sexual assault against Faña was presented on January 18 to the Unit for Attention and Prevention of Gender Violence, by the former financial manager of the IAD, María Isabel Flores, who ended up withdrawing it, but the Public Ministry continued this process. he ended up sending him to Najayo Prison.

Faña asked President Luis Abinader for a work license to deal with the accusation and said at any time that he was innocent of the charges against him.

In a letter to the head of state, the suspended official said: “Mr President, I allow myself to ask you for a leave of absence, thus terminating my duties, so that I can deal with this political cause without hindrance. which I will prove to be innocent, be it at the legal or political level ”.
