Legendary radio actress Martha Velasco dies in Havana

Famous Cuban actress and broadcaster Martha Velasco, the aforementioned Teresa Guitarreta “Teté”, from “Alegrías de Sobremesa”, died on Friday in Havana, at the age of 95. Radio clock.

Martha has developed a vast career in national television, theater and radio, although she was in the last environment in which she worked the most, both in dramatic and humorous spaces.

In recognition of his work for more than half a century as the protagonist of novels, short stories, plays and series on Radio Progreso, he received the National Radio Award for Opera of Life.

“Yes, I was trained on the radio while traveling through almost every radio station in Havana, which was about thirty or more,” he said in an interview on Cuban radio.

Born in the Cuban capital on November 1, 1925, Martha Velasco made her debut at the age of 17 as Doña Inés in the play “Don Juan Tenorio” for the radio station Poate-Seigle. He later studied stage performance and recitation at the School of Fine Arts in the Galician Center in Havana.

Among the characters that the actress remembered most fondly were the protagonists of the novel “Purple Color” and the play “At the house of Bernarda Alba.

He also worked in the important radio station RHC Cadena Azul. Among the actors with whom he shared microphones throughout his life are Julio Alberto Casanova, Raquel Revuelta, Pastor Felipe, Raúl Selis and Miguel Navarro, among others.

For his artistic merits, he was also awarded the Distinction for National Culture, the Medal of Merit for Radio and Television and the Alejo Carpentier Medal.

By family decision, his body will be cremated.
