Rep. Lisa McClain, R-Mich., Exclaimed Nancy Pelosi Tuesday after the House Speaker referred to her as “that woman,” asking the GOP congressman to apologize for her statements about Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif.
“Speaker Pelosi, you need to know the name of this woman and that’s Lisa McClain,” said the Michigan representative during a performance on “The Faulkner Focus.”
McClain claimed that Pelosi is keeping her party at a “lower standard” by defending Waters’ recent comments in Minneapolis, while Republicans such as Marjorie-Taylor Greene and former President Donald Trump have had varying degrees of ramifications for their speech.
“The Democrats have set a standard and I’m just asking Madam Chairman, don’t you think we should both play by the same rules?” McClain asked.
GOP CONGRESS WOMAN BURNS BACK AFTER PELOSI CALLS HER ‘THAT WOMAN’
McClain said she will continue to fight despite Pelosi’s comments to “expose” the double standards of members of Congress.
The GOP congressman had also directly criticized Waters, claiming that she found it difficult to “misinterpret” the California representative’s comments urging protesters to become more “confrontational”.
“Words matter,” McClain said.
The back-and-forth movement between Pelosi and McClain began after Waters attended a police cruelty protest in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota Saturday night, saying protesters should “ stay on the streets ” demanding justice until meaningful police reform was achieved. .
McClain appeared to be referring to Waters during a Monday speech on the House floor.
Again, this weekend we saw a member of the majority openly calling for more confrontation in suburban Minneapolis, McClain said. “That same night there was a drive-by shooting … targeting the police and the National Guard.”
McClain added that if the tables were turned and a Republican told protesters to “become more confrontational,” the House majority “would remove that representative from their committees and possibly decide to oust them from Congress.”
“That woman on the floor should apologize for what she said,” Pelosi told The Hill on Monday.
