Lawyer: “Dantas did not say anything about the fact that Rondón bribed officials or congressmen”

Ángel Rondón’s lawyer, José Miguel Minier, said that the testimony of Mauricio Dantas Bezerra, Odebrecht’s legal director in the country, does not prove that Rondón bribed members of the state.

“Dantas said absolutely nothing that Rondón bribed any official or congressman,” Minier said outside the courtroom where the trial of those involved in the Odebrecht case continues.

The lawyer also assured that the representative of the Brazilian company did not add any new elements during his presentation.

“Dantas said Rondón received transfers, Rondón said he did not say anything new in 2017; The question to be addressed to the Public Ministry is that of the 92 million, it should say how much Víctor Díaz Rúa, Tommy Galán, Andrés Bautista and Roberto Rodríguez received. He didn’t say anything about it there, absolutely nothing, everything is speculative, “Minier told the press.

In addition, the lawyer assured that, if it is true that the testimony of Dantas Bezerra proves the accusation against Rondón, another interrogation will be carried out to confirm whether the aforementioned defendant received a bribe.

In his testimony on Friday, Dantas Bezerras expressed to which companies the money was transferred, including Conansa, a company owned by Rondón, which rented equipment and worked. On this, Minier assures that he will present as proof the receipts of the tax payments.

“There can be no sworn statement of that Conansa company before the General Directorate of Internal Revenue and that they are bribes,” the lawyer added.

Last Friday, Mauricio Dantas Bezerra began his appearance in the Odebrecht case, in which six defendants are accused of receiving a bribe of $ 92 million from the Brazilian company to award them works contracts from the Dominican state.

The hearing is being led by Judges Jissel Naranjo, Tania Yunes and Gisselle Méndez.
