Launched Ultimatum damaged due to … page size?

“Priority Streamer” did not help alleviate community frustrations

Like any greedy Path of exile the player can tell you now, yesterday sucking. We are used to some one-day server issues, as are all the bases of online players, but the holy cow was an absolute mess yesterday. After a queue of very slow moving players, Path of exile finally let people be disconnected just five minutes later. May be this would have been more tolerable if it also did not come with refunds, essentially erasing the last 1-3 minutes of progress from the board.

I probably reached level 13 about four times before finally giving up for that day. Path of exile Twitter account acknowledged these problems, but offered little comfort to those anticipating a fix, even updating late at night (on the east coast of the US) simply to mention that they without new information.

Finally, the developers have released an official announcement detailing everything to users. While they avoid becoming too technical, they do a good job of explaining the backstage movements that caused a lot of problems. As of now, the servers seem to be working pretty well, and the only real information they mentioned is for other developers to “be careful with the size of the database page, “Whatever that means!

There was another problem that made this worse: some streamers were given priority to jump completely out of the queue and jump straight into the game (when it was actually available). These streamers could not play if the servers were pointing up, which was quite often, but this injustice certainly upset many members of the community.

As explained in the announcement, the developers had a paid advertisement with some streamers for two hours, so instead of wasting that money and making these streamers show only a declining queue number, Grinding Gear Games decided to give priority these streamers. They also offered it to other streamers that are not part of the marketing campaign. This made community members angry at streamers (stupid) and some streamers really dig into a hole, as seen here.

They apologized for this issue and acknowledged it as a mistake in their post, while vowing never to do it again. Personally, I was fine with that, because streamers provide a service and I enjoy that service, so I really can clock someone playing the game offered a form of emotion. In addition, they faced the same problems as everyone else, they just didn’t have to wait like that, two minutes that I had to wait in line. I understand the arguments about some “teams” of players that started with the economy, but I’m not at the level of the player who really cares about it, all the things considered.

The bottom line is that I can now finally move on to Act 2, and hopefully I will experience very few blockages and comebacks.
