Shawn Southwick, the widow of Larry King, challenged the will that the legendary journalist left handwritten and according to which his fortune should be divided equally among his five children. “This is my last will and testament (…) It should replace all previous writings,” says the document to which people had access.
According to the American media specializing in entertainment news, the will dates from October 17, 2019, two months after King filed for divorce from Southwick, his seventh wife, arguing irreconcilable differences.
However, Southwick now claims that she and King were working on a possible “reconciliation” when the journalist fell ill. In this regard, he stated in court documents that, after filing for divorce, “the parties went to counsel, continued to speak, and reconciliation was still possible.”
Southwick also said she was “actively involved” in King’s business and had “the best knowledge” of his possessions and desires at the time of his death. For this reason, she asked to be appointed special administrator of the estate of the late journalist in place of her son, Larry Jr., although King requested in his will.
Larry King passed away at the age of 87 on January 23. According to his death certificate, although he remained hospitalized after contracting the coronavirus, his death was caused by sepsis from two underlying conditions: acute hypoxic respiratory failure – a lack of oxygen in the blood – and kidney failure. Over the years, King has also suffered from other health problems, such as type 2 diabetes, various heart attacks and lung cancer.
