Lance Bass says Colton Underwood is facing reactions from the gay community because he “monetizes the experience” of going out.
Colton, 29, went public on Good Morning America on Wednesday and allegedly filmed a Netflix reality show about his life as a gay man.
Lance, who went gay in 2006, talked about the star of The Bachelor in the latest episode of Ben & Ashley I. Podcast almost famous this week.

Why does he think Colton gets so much reaction online after he leaves, the former NSYNC singer explained: “This gay community is very diverse, but we can also be very volatile.
“It will certainly get a lot of reaction from the community at first. Not the majority, but there is a small percentage of the community who simply will not like the fact that it turned out that way, that it monetizes the experience.
He continued: “They don’t think they deserve this attention and one of those reasons is, and that’s what I experienced when I went out … when you go out for the first time, most people have no idea about the LGBT community.

“I do not know what the problems are, because they were so deliberately separated from it. So when someone comes out as a public figure, so many people immediately say, “It’s too late.” They don’t like to support it, because I don’t feel like you know what you’re talking about yet.
“But I don’t think Colton is trying to lead the accusation of being the spokesperson for the LGBTQ community.” Lance, 41, added.
The singer said that he can relate to Colton, because ‘90% of my fans were women and everyone thought I was right. I earned my money from women and sang about love and used that market. So going out was scary … because now everyone will see me as a liar … ‘
Meanwhile, Colton has no immediate plans so far after coming out as gay.

A source told TMZ: “Colton is not meeting anyone now and is not meeting anyone before making his big announcement this week on GMA.”
They added that Colton is busy with his Netflix show and also wants to spend quality time with his family in Denver, rather than focus on a relationship right now.
Meanwhile, Colton’s ex, 25-year-old Cassie Randolph – whom she met during her season at The Bachelor and went out after – broke her silence after her revelation about her sexuality.
Cassie – who recently left for Mexico’s Cozumel Island for a getaway – wrote on Instagram: “Thank you all for your comments and kind messages.”
She also revealed that she is taking a week off from posting on her YouTube channel.
Meanwhile, Colton’s ex, 25-year-old Cassie Randolph – whom she met during her season at The Bachelor and went out after – broke her silence after her revelation about her sexuality. She accused him of harassing her and issued a restraining order against them after their separation last year.
After their separation, Cassie filed court documents accusing Colton of pursuing her, harassing her, and planting a tracking device in the car.
Cassie later dropped the restraining order and Colton did not directly address the controversy in his GMA interview, but admitted he had made mistakes.
He said: “I would just say I’m sorry. “I am sorry for any pain and emotional stress I have caused. I wish it hadn’t happened the way it did. I wish I was brave enough to work out before breaking up with someone else.
