The Sacramento Kings acquired LA Clippers striker Mfiondu Kabengele and raised money for a well-protected second-round pick, sources told ESPN.
With the transaction, the Clippers created an open list before Thursday’s NBA trading deadline and the possible free agent buyback market, falling $ 2.6 million below the maximum limit. Under hardcover restrictions, the Clippers had to wait until March 30 to score a player. Now, there are no restrictions on the use of the two open places by the team.
The kings absorbed the Kabengele in a trade exception that would have expired on Monday.
Kabengele, a 6-foot-9 striker outside of Florida, was the 27th overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. He played fashionably with the Clippers in two seasons, entering 35 games and averaging 4.5 minutes to a team led by veterans.
The kings now have the opportunity to inspect the Kabengele more closely for the rest of the 2020-21 season. The Clippers turned down the option for the third year before the season.
