Apple is working on two new MacBook Pro models that will feature significant design changes, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said today in a note to investors, which was obtained by MacRumors.
According to Kuo, Apple is developing two 14- and 16-inch models. The new MacBook Pro cars will have a flat-edged design, which Kuo describes as “similar to the iPhone 12” without curves like current models. It will be the most important design update of the MacBook Pro in the last five years.
No OLED touchpads will be included, with Apple instead returning to the physical function keys. Kuo says the design of the MagSafe charging connector will be restored, although it’s unclear what that means, as Apple has switched to USB-C. The updated MacBook Pro models will have additional ports, and Kuo says most people may not have to buy dongles to supplement the ports available on the new cars. Since 2016, Apple MacBook Pro models have been limited to USB-C ports, with no other ports available.
All new MacBook Pro models will have Apple silicon chips and no Intel chip options will be included.
1. The two new models are equipped with displays of approximately 14 inches and 16 inches respectively.
2. With regard to the design of the case, the new models cancel out the curved design of the upper and lower parts of the existing models and adopt a flat-edge shape factor design similar to iPhone 12.
3. The design of the agMagSafe charging connector is restored.
4. The OLED touch bar is removed and the physical function buttons are restored.
5. There is no Intel CPU option for the new models.
6. They are equipped with several types of I / O, and most users may not need to purchase additional dongles.
The MacBook Pro models will use the same heat pipe design used by the current 16-inch MacBook Pro, which Kuo says is much better than the current 13-inch MacBook Pro and MacBook Air, as it will allow for increased computing power.
Kuo says we can expect to see new MacBook Pro models released in the third quarter of 2021. Due to the invigorated design and strong demand for replacement, Kuo expects the total number of MacBook deliveries to increase significantly by 25 to 30 percent. annually, up to 20 million units.
Kuo also said that the latest generation iPhone models that will come in 2021 will adopt a thermal system with a steam room, which Apple “aggressively tests”. The VC thermal system will be needed for high-end iPhones due to their stronger computing power and higher 5G connection speed. There are already smartphones from companies like Samsung, Razer and LG that use steam room cooling technology, which is used to keep a device cooler when subjected to strong stress.
It is unclear whether the thermal system of the steam room will meet Apple’s high requirements, according to Kuo, but he is optimistic about the program to improve reliability and expects at least the latest generation models to adopt it in the near future.
