LAWRENCE, Kan. – The University of Kansas and Les Miles mutually agreed to part ways effectively. The terms of the agreement will be published in the coming days. While a national search for a new head coach immediately begins, Mike DeBord will continue to serve as interim head coach until an interim head coach is established.
Statement by athletic director Jeff Long:
“I am extremely disappointed with our university, the fans and all those involved in our football program. There are a lot of young talents in this football team and I have no doubt that we will identify the right person to lead this program. We will start looking for a new head coach immediately with an external company to help in this process. We have to win football games and that’s exactly what we’re going to do. ”
Statement by former football head coach Les Miles:
“It is definitely a difficult day for me and my family. I love this university and the young people in our football program. I really liked being the head coach at KU and I know that now he is in a better place than when I arrived. For our sports students, I want you to remember that you came to play for KU and earn a degree here. So I beg you to stay and build on what we started and do all the things we talked about doing together. There is a bright future for all of you and for KU Football. ”
