Kim Jong Un’s wife, Ri Sol Ju, appears in public for the first time in a year

The wife of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un appeared in public for the first time in more than a year on Wednesday, at a concert that marked one of the nation’s biggest holidays.

Ri Sol Ju and her husband were seen in photos posted by the state media, sitting next to each other and smiling at the Mansudae Art Theater in the capital of Pyongyang.

The event commemorated the birthday of Kim’s late father and former leader Kim Jong Il.

While the first lady of the Hermit Kingdom often accompanied Kim, 36, to major public events, she came out of the spotlight in January last year when she attended a New Year’s Eve event. Monthly.

Her absence from the public eye has sparked speculation about her health and rumors that she may be pregnant.

South Korea’s National Intelligence Service (NIS) told lawmakers on Tuesday that Ri appears to have refrained from outside events to remove the coronavirus.

Ri, who is believed to be in the mid-1930s, spent his time “playing well” with the couple’s three children, NIS said.

None of the new images of the couple – published by the official newspaper of the Labor Party Rodong Sinmun – wore masks or maintained measures of social distance.

The newspaper also reported that Kim visited the Kumsusan Sun Palace, which houses the embalmed bodies of her father and grandfather, to lay wreaths for the holiday, called Shining Star Day.
