Kike Hernández signs for two years and 14 million dollars with the Boston Red Sox

The Puerto Rican player Enrique “Kike” Hernández reached a two-year, $ 14 million deal with the Boston Red Sox, US media reported Friday.

The versatile joins the franchise, where his compatriot Alex Cora holds the position of manager and Christian Vázquez as the first holder. Hernandez is expected to play in the middle for the Red Sox.

The 29-year-old Puerto Rican has spent the last six seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He participated in three autumn classics and was a member of the ninth that won the last edition of the World Series.

Hernández became a free agent, and Boston was one of the organizations that immediately showed interest. Cora, who returns to the position of manager after serving a year of suspension, knew Hernández well when they were both part of Puerto Rico’s ninth-ranked second in the 2017 world baseball rankings.

In the shortened 2020 season, Hernández managed .230 with five home runs and 20 RBIs.
