Khabib Nurmagomedov “has officially retired,” says Dana White

Khabib Nurmagomedov finally convinced UFC President Dana White that his fighting career was over.

Nurmagomedov (29-0 MMA, 13-0 UFC) first announced his retirement from MMA competition after his easy defense for Justin Gaethje in October last year at UFC 254. Citing the fall of his father and coach, Abdulmanap A promise to his mother, the Eagle, said it had been made.

The announcement did not convince everyone. White insisted that Nurmagomedov should continue the fighting, and in the coming months he made his way to meetings, through the media and more. In the end, however, it paid off.

White entered social networks on Thursday and, after what appears to be another meeting with Nurmagomedov, said that the undefeated Dagestani is “officially retired”.

White shared the news in a caption posted next to a photo of Nurmagomedov (via Twitter):

29-0 is.

He is officially retired. It was incredible to see you working @TeamKhabib thank you for EVERYTHING and enjoy what my friend is following.

In a personal post on Instagram, Nurmagomedov thanked the UFC and said that “a real conversation between real men” took place between him and White.

Khabib retires undefeated 29-0 in his MMA career, which includes 13 UFC fights. His training course includes notable victories over Conor McGregor, Dustin Poirier, Justin Gaethje, Rafael dos Anjos, Edson Barboza and Al Iaquinta, whom he defeated to claim the vacant title in April 2018 at UFC 223.

Shortly after White’s announcement, MMA Junkie confirmed that the UFC will continue an easy fight for the title between Michael Chandler and Charles Oliveira, which will be the UFC 262 title on May 15th.
