Kelly Dodd’s proclamation that she was a black woman during the season 15 reunion of “The Real Housewives of Orange County” was not very good for most viewers, including her stepdaughter.
Veronica Leventhal, the daughter of Dodd’s husband, Rick Leventhal, took to Instagram shortly after the reality star claimed that she cannot be racist towards black people, because she herself is black, making some key points that challenge Dodd’s reasoning.
However, she is sure that she will never mention her stepmother’s name.
“I don’t think it’s okay for people who say they’ve experienced racism and prejudice to come back and cause the same fanaticism to other people.” Veronica began in a clip reposted on Twitter. “I don’t think you can experience the privileges of white and then come back and deny that those privileges exist.
“I do not think you can claim ownership of a culture or a nationality and then deny their privileges, either through political perspectives or just by submitting them in other ways. And, I don’t think you can use your multiculturalism as a shield for people who say you have biases. ”
She concluded: “If you make arguments about racism, you should have a basic understanding of the difference between race, ethnicity and nationality.”
Before her October wedding to Leventhal, Dodd was slapped for wearing a “Drives Wives Matter” hat in her bridal shower. She was also set on fire for a 2016 resurfaced video in which she claimed that “[doesn’t] like black boys. ”
“I don’t even know black boys,” she said.
Dodd previously stated that she “experienced racism” as “a woman of color.”
