Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was eliminated from Sunday’s playoff game against the Cleveland Browns when he was attacked awkwardly and appeared to have concussion-like symptoms.
The Chiefs managed to defeat the Browns with some heroes from the end of the game from veteran backup defender Chad Henne, but as the Chiefs turn their attention to Buffalo Bills, who will host the AFC championship game, a question is now above all: will Patrick Mahomes be ready to play?
A first report by Jay Glazer from FOX provides a reason for optimism.
“Right now, he’s part of the concussion protocol,” Glazer told FOX Sunday night. “You see, it’s hard for him to get up [and] going there, all the more so as it is said that it was almost as if he had drowned, of which I know a thing or two. Not so much a concussion, but still have to go through the concussion protocol. However, he is trying to get back into this game, so there is a lot of confidence that he will be able to go next week. “
This is good universal news for Muhammad and the leaders. If Muhammad did not suffer a concussion or other serious head or neck injuries, all signs certainly indicate a quick return, in time for the third consecutive AFC Champions League game.
After the match, the head coach, Andy Reid, spared details, but also presented an optimistic tone on the immediate future of Muhammad.
“It’s actually going pretty well,” Reid said. “I just talked to him and he’s doing well. We’ll see how he is tomorrow, but he’s doing well right now.”
