WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – A man named Steve from Salina is among the Kansans in Washington, DC, to meet in front of President Donald Trump. Steve, who did not give his last name, was part of the big group that pushed into the US chapter on Wednesday afternoon. Steve said he was in the nation’s capital because he was “tired” and “we have to stand up for the Americans.”
“The goal is to show the American people that we love our country and that we will take a stand for it,” he said.
Steve said the intention was not for the protest to become violent.
“We didn’t want to cause any more problems, but we wanted to be inside the capital. It is our home and we set out to go in and talk to our representatives, because they are doing the wrong thing, ”he said.
Steve made the trip to Washington, DC from the state of Sunflower with others who did not listen to law enforcement.
“I climbed on the scaffolding inside,” he said of entering the U.S. Chapter. “The doors were opened with our feet and we entered and then the internal police came to us, sprayed us with pepper and hit us with shields.”
He said the bold action was what he thought would be needed to get his message across.
“I would die for our country and for freedom. I would die for your freedoms. And if that’s what it takes to do it … “
Steve said he left the chapter before delivery time at 6 p.m., and he didn’t know what might happen when night fell in Washington.
